My Most Embarrassing Moment: Part 2

If you have read part 1 (if you haven't you can find it here) then you will know that I got unexpectedly sick while driving. And, I don't just mean that I felt really bad. I mean uncontrollably vomiting while driving late at night on my own kind of sick. My oh-so-wonderful boyfriend drove out to the empty gas station where  I was desperately trying to clean the vomit from my car. He then followed me home and took care of my dog while I tried to clean my car a little more so it wouldn't smell so bad in the morning.

I know that I did not look remotely attractive. I know there were dried bits of vomit on my face, legs, and arms. I quickly looked up online how I should clean my car's interior, and found that it would not be something I could do in the dark. To help prevent unpleasant odors in the summer heat I sprinkled a generous amount of baking soda over my seat and floor. When we were finally clean we settled in to bed. Both of us were just thankful that the roads were empty and I, and my car, made it home in one piece. Though, we were both dreading the task ahead of us in the morning: completely cleaning my car.

After getting a few hours of sleep we took my dog for a walk, ate a small breakfast (my stomach was still not feeling right), and headed out to a self serve car wash. I was pleased that my car didn't smell too bad. I don't know if it was the baking soda, or if it just wasn't hot enough outside yet. Either way, it made the drive to the carwash much easier.

I ended up getting $25 in tokens for the car wash. My boyfriend cleaned the outside of my car. It looked fantastic! Although, I didn't get it messy the night before it was just dirty from a few months of grime from the roads and spring storms. I paid for his car to be washed as well. I figured it was the least I could do. After all, he was my night in shining armor the night before.

Once the outside of both cars were done we made our way over to the vacuum and shampooing station. I was able to quickly get rid of some of the dried bits and the baking soda. I was very pleased with how easy it was for me to shampoo the floor mats, floor of the car, and the driver's seat. Once I was done there weren't even any stains!

With two clean cars we headed back to my house. Once my boyfriend was sure that I was alright he went back to his house. I spent the rest of the day napping. I didn't regain my appetite until the next afternoon, but at least I wasn't vomiting anymore.

So what did I learn?  There are many ways to clean vomit from a car's interior. Sure, you can spend some time searching the web for ways to clean it at home. But, in all honesty, I found it super easy to just use the machine at the carwash. I spent about $4 to vacuum and shampoo my car's interior and there weren't any stains or unpleasant odors when I was done. Most of the home cleaning methods called for vinegar, and I don't know about you but I don't want my car to smell like vinegar. Especially not in the summer.

I also found that I can handle unexpected situations better than I thought I could. One of my biggest fears was that I would end up on the side of the road alone at night. I never dreamed that I would actually need to leave my car, let alone need to vomit on the side of the road. And yet, I was able to do exactly what I needed to in order to make it out safe and sound. I went with my gut and made sure that I had my car completely cleaned before the heat of the day could set in the next day. I called for help when I needed it, even though I was completely mortified by what had just happened.

I guess the moral of the story is when in doubt take the pepto, don't drive, and make sure you have someone you can call for help if need be.

Learning the Hard Way: Hurricane Matthew

I've had to learn a few thing the hard way. One of the most recent was the importance of being prepared. Normally, I am a very cautious person. I would much rather play it safe than be sorry. But, I am also good with money and don't like to spend it unnecessarily. I live in the Hampton Roads area. I know that the area is prone to flooding and I know what, typically, to expect from storms. This area isn't known for having a lot of hurricane activity, but living on the coastline, you know if can happen. I keep an eye on the weather. I don't like to be caught off guard. The flooding in front of my apartment My boyfriend and I had been watching the development of Hurricane Matthew before it was even projected to impact our area. When it looked like the storm could possible hit our area we began to plan. It was a week before the storm was forecasted to hit us and we were talking about what foods we needed to get, where we could store water, and if we should get a cam

LEEPs and Bounds

Chances are pretty good that you are familiar with the fact that women need to have yearly pelvic exams. And if you are a woman then chances are even higher that you are all too familiar with everything that this exam entails. It's a great topic of conversation is it not? No? It should be. There is too much of a social taboo on women's health, and it is time for that to change. Women choose not be ashamed of themselves or the care that they need to stay healthy. I want to help women of all ages feel more comfortable with themselves and not be embarrassed to speak out, if they so choose. I had my first pelvic exam at 14. I was a terrified high school freshmen that was in a hospital gown at my local ER. I was scared and in a lot of pain. The pain in my abdomen woke me up that morning. My mother, being the super-mom that she is, immediately knew that something wasn't right. The triage nurse at the ER told my mother that there was either something wrong with my bladder or my
